DIXIELAND AT DISNEYLAND 1963
Just a quick post to share some art from the Disney History Institute collection. In the early 1960s one of the most memorable events at Disneyland was the "Dixieland at Disneyland" celebration, usually held just after the summer season. Here, big name jazz and dixieland bands would showcase their talents over a weekend. Such greats as Al Hirt, Louis Armstrong, the Firehouse Five Plus Two, and others, would get Disneyland all jazzed up. (I have some home movies of the 1963 celebration that started with a parade down Main Street, U.S.A. that ended with the various concerts in Frontierland. If I can figure out how to get them transferred and cleaned up, I'll put them in a future post here at the Institute.) So to start off the celebration, I offer images of some suggested Disneyland artwork to help publicize the event in 1963. Enjoy.

What an event! I've seen the 1962 "Disneyland After Dark" TV episode featuring Louis Armstrong performing on the Mark Twain. But how cool to actually be there live during one of the "Dixieland at Disneyland" celebrations.
ReplyDeleteWish I could have attended, but I had hardly just arrived on the planet :)
I was the same. Just arrived on the planet! So have to live it vicariously through the TV Show, LPs, and photos. Thanks as always for your comments. I Enjoy your site (I'll be putting up some of Ken's original Snow White attraction art on DHI in the next few weeks). Paul
