WALT'S BIRTHDAY 2009-Disneyland Submarine Ride

Memory of Walt by Jack Lindquist, Disneyland Executive:

"Walt wanted to put in the Matterhorn, Monorail, and Submarines for summer 1959, but his brother had other ideas. Roy said we were just getting out of the hole and we'd have to wait two or three years. Then he left for Europe to raise money for motion pictures. Two days after he left, Walt called WED and said, 'We're going to build the Matterhorn, Monorail, and Submarines.' WED said, 'But Roy said we can't afford it.' 'We're going to build them,' he said. 'Roy can figure out how to pay for them when he gets back.' "
